Cibodas Botanical Garden, Puncak. The buoyant, nostalgic place that bring us back to the nature. Buzzing sound of excitement filled the air of Sekolah Victory Plus early in the morning, where we gathered. One by one the students fill the bus. To tell you the truth, we have zero expectation that we would find any sign of success. And after long hours of trip, we finally arrived at our destination. We stretched and yawn, and our jaws drop as we see the bright sunlight, and green scenery. The fresh air filled our body as we breathed in. Little did we know, therein lies undiscovered crumbs of success...

Interview

During our excursion to Cibodas Botanical Garden , we had to observe and document the natural habitat and local economy. Our main aim was to interview local park employees or local entrepreneurs and obtain what are their achievements, goals and aims. This is what we got..

Rahmat, a 35 years old local entrepreneur. He has been a street seller for more than 6 years. He has claimed that his experience of being a seller in the Botanical Garden has taught him the knowledge of herbal medicine and what it cures. His goal is to spread his knowledge to people especially in Indonesia that doesn’t know such things existed. Not only that, he definitely wants to pursue his dream of being a businessman. But for now, he is happy that he could provide for his family.

Bu Ati, a 68 years old women that rents picnic mat to tourist or local people visiting the park. She has been working in the park for 15 years to provide for her 14 grandchildren. Even though her job barely suffice the whole family’s needs, she’s very happy, every single day.

These two contrasting yet similar characters have brought us to realise one thing which is life can be easy if we enjoy the little things we do. No matter what you work as or the which family you were brought from, it comes to the person that decides their happiness.

What We Learn

11th February 2016, Cibodas Botanical Garden. It’s a good diversion to be in a place with so much green and fresh air, it makes us feel refreshed. Especially with the hectic tests and homeworks! Our teacher, Mr. Young, picked that place because he believe that the nature is great for us and also because he loves nature. It’s amazing how Indonesia can maintain that environment. But of course, we go there not only to have fun, but also to learn.

We were assigned to interview the local workers or the local tourists. Contributing on the excursion counts as an achievement for us. By participating 100% on the excursion, We are able to expand our knowledge more especially from the interview result. It opens our eyes and has proved us that different people have different perspective towards achievement. We were also surprised that Cibodas Botanical Garden is actually well known, we could see plenty of tourists enjoying the ravishing view. By then, we realized that as Indonesian we need to be proud of it, since we choose to be part of the future solution. Just as what Mr.Young said, six hours of bus trip is worth it, seeing the scenery so dazzling and green which we rarely see in Bekasi, plus the fresh air is undeniable there. At the end of the day, we say that our glass is half full
